The Unitárius
Quarterly
and The Padlás Project:
The Unitárius
Quarterly and Unitárius
Quarterly
On Line are joint endeavors of the First Unitarian Church of
Louisville, Kentucky and The Padlás Project.
Our mission is to
make available to interested readers outside the Hungarian language community
a representative sampling of the best of the current literature of the
Unitarian Churches in Hungary and the Transylvanian region of Romania in
readable, accurate English translations.

Program Description:
While our primary
objective continues to be the print publication of a journal, the Unitárius
Quarterly,
which will offer a more comprehensive selection from the current literature of
these Unitarian communities, chosen primarily from the Unitárius Élet,
published by the Unitarian Church in Hungary, and the Keresztény
Magvető and Unitárius Közlöny, published
by the Unitarian Church in Romania, we hope that the publication of this
internet edition, Unitárius
Quarterly On Line, will permit us to offer news reportage and
announcements concerning the Churches in a more timely fashion and to make a
selection of their most interesting work available without hindrance to the
many readers around the world who have shown such a strong interest in these
Unitarian communities and in their history, theology, practice and current
challenges.
Our goal is to
offer on this site a new, updated edition of Unitárius
Quarterly
On line on the first day of every month. While we are working towards
the introduction of the print edition of Unitárius
Quarterly,
the realization of our hopes continues to be contingent upon our ability to
secure funding adequate to the greater expense of print publication. Please
watch this site for updates on our progress.
Acknowledgements:
We must express
our gratitude to the leaders and members of the Unitarian Church in Romania
and the Unitarian Church in Hungary for their gracious permission to translate
and republish articles from their publications and for their generous support
of our endeavors. We would especially like to thank the editors and staffs of Unitárius
Élet, the Unitárius Közlöny and the Keresztény
Magvető for their kindness and help. And, most importantly, we
would like to express our appreciation for the generosity of the contributors
to these publications, whose work we publish in these pages.
Over the past
twelve months so many people and organizations have supported our work in so
many ways that we are sure to have omitted more than a few and for that we
apologize. We would, however, like to publicly thank the following, without
whose help this project could not have been realized:
The Unitarian
Church in Romania and its Bishop, Dr. Árpád Szabó
The Unitarian
Church in Hungary and its Bishop, Rev. Csaba Rázmány
Rev. Ilona
Szent-Iványi Orbók
The Unitarian
Universalist Partner Church Council and its President, the Rev. John Keyes
Rev. John Gibbons
Rev. Dr. Spencer
Lavan
Rev. Abhi
Prakash Janamanchi
Rev. Scott Wells
Árpád Gazdag
Patricia Lutsey

A note on
copyright and permissions:
We recognize that
the works translated for inclusion on this site are the creative work and
property of their original authors, or, where no author is identified, of the
periodical in which the work first appeared. We have been allowed to translate
and republish these works only through the consent of those publications. We
respect the rights the authors hold to these works, including those held under
the provisions of copyright law in the countries of first publication, and ask
that our readers do so as well.
We also recognize
that the translated versions of these works are to a lesser and subordinate
extent the creative work of their translator, Michael D. Burp, and consider
the appearance of these translated versions on this website to be the first
publication of these translations and to be eligible for protection under the
copyright laws of the United States. Where the author of the original
Hungarian language work deems it consistent with their rights and wishes, we
will endeavor to protect the rights of both the author and the translator to
their own creative work in any English language translation appearing in these
pages. We ask that our readers respect these rights as well.
Any and all
materials published on this web site may, of course, be downloaded and copied
for individual, personal use. As is customary, short passages may be quoted
without permission. We ask, however, that those wishing to reproduce or to
republish substantial passages or entire articles first submit a written
request for permission to the editor of the Unitárius
Quarterly.
Rights to all
original work on this web site, including the site itself, are retained by its
editor, Michael D. Burp.
